Cortinarius tubarius Ammirati & Smith subgenus Dermocybe Cap 2-5cm across, broadly campanulate becoming flattish with an umbo; yellowish olive then more olive-brown; covered in appressed fibrils. Gills adnexed; light yellow to yellowish green at first, eventually yellowish brown. Stem 50-100 x 4-7mm, equal; dull bully yellow at first, then more brownish; not covered in veil fibers. Flesh dull huffy olive, more brownish at the stem base. Odor slight. Taste slight. Spores ellipsoid to ovoid, roughened, 8.75-10.5 x 5-6µ, quotient 1.75. Deposit rusty brown. Habitat in mossy conifer woods. Occasional. Found in Washington and probably other similar habitats. Season September-October. Not edible. Comment KOH causes an olive-fuscous reaction on the cap surface and an olive reaction, on the flesh.
